Heat Treatment

Thermal Remediation = Heat Treatment to Kill Bed Bugs

GreenLeaf Pest Control is proud to launch Thermal Remediation ® (heat treatment) to battle insecticide-resistant bed bugs. This electric bed bug heat treatment is an effective solution designed specifically for the needs of:

  • Hospitals, Long Term Care Facilities and Other Health Care Facilities
  • Hotels, Motels and Resort Properties
  • Apartments and Condominiums
  • Universities and Camp Sites
  • Single Family Homes
  • Offices

The target temperature during treatment is between 45-55° C, the temperature necessary for heat to penetrate bed bug harbourage areas. This safe, effective, and environmentally friendly process uses dry electric heat to kill the entire life cycle of bed bugs.

There are many benefits in using the heat treatment as opposed to conventional pesticide treatments.

  • Pesticide usage inside the living environments are greatly reduced or eliminated
  • Faster and more effective elimination of bed bug infestations
  • Minimal preparation required prior to service
  • No need to throw away mattresses, box springs or other furniture

With the heat treatment process preparation is minimal; you can leave most items in areas that are going to be treated – clothing, bedding, furniture, TV, computers. Because bed bugs and eggs can live on most items, keeping these in the room is important.

What does a heat treatment involve?

  1. The infested area is heated to 55° C. Once the heat in the infested area reaches the optimum temperature, it is maintained for several hours to ensure complete eradication of the infestation. The hot air is circulated using fans, and temperatures are monitored throughout the treatment area(s) during the process with wireless sensors that capture all temperature readings.
  2. An application of residual insecticide dust may be applied into the cracks and crevices and/or adjacent rooms/units and a longer term defence.
  3. After the treatment is complete, the team removes all the equipment and a Canine Inspection is conducted by Tracker, Canada’s first and Ontario’s only NESDCA certified dog to make sure that all the bed bugs are gone.
